How Scrub Squad Started

Scrub Squad YYC was founded by Sara in 2023, but the story really starts two years earlier. Sara had been cleaning professionally since 2021, using the same conventional products most people reach for — the heavy-duty stuff that cuts through grease and leaves everything smelling “clean.” But after years of daily exposure, something changed. She was constantly short of breath, dealing with headaches, and feeling run down in a way that didn't add up. It turns out, many conventional cleaners contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and irritants that build up over time — affecting not just the people living in a home, but the cleaners working in it every single day.

Sara made the switch to plant-based and non-toxic products — and the difference was almost immediate. Her breathing improved, the headaches stopped, and she felt better at work for the first time in years. That experience became the foundation of Scrub Squad YYC: the belief that a clean home shouldn't come at the cost of anyone's health — not the homeowner's, not their kids' or pets', and not the cleaners' either.
